How many times have you received the most adorable little handprint, scribble or family picture from your little one on a special occasion – Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Birthdays, etc… and only a few days later it’s been misplaced or thrown out accidentally or even used as part of another one of your preschooler’s random art projects?
Last year just before Mother’s Day, I was perusing through Pinterest and found the best idea – to start a keepsake journal where we could safely store all of our special occasion notes and drawings from our littles over the years! My sweet hubby went out and purchased a larger journal from our local Chapters store and then proceeded to fill it with words straight from our then 3 year old’s mouth along with a handprint and even a little “message” from our 2 month old. Sweetest. Gift. Ever! I went out and purchased a similar, but more “manly” journal from Chapters for Jason on Father’s day and we keep them neatly tucked away in our night tables to look at and admire whenever the feeling strikes!
It’s been fun to sit down with Ava and Claire and ask them what they want to say on those special occasions. Whenever the mood strikes, with coffee in hand, it’s fun to look through our keepsake journals and see the progression from their first entries.
It’s a great way to remember special moments that were happening at those times in our life and to also look forward to the day when both of our girls will take the journal on their own accord and write to us without any help or guidance. (Deep sigh).
Our youngest, Claire will be 2 in just a few short months and this past June our firstborn, Ava, turned 5; it really made me think – time flies! It’s so important to find ways to remember those precious thoughts and memories over the years. And, finding an organized, space saving, budget friendly way to do it is a BONUS!
I’d love to hear how you keep track of your special notes and momento’s from your children!
Awesome Sarah! What a great idea!
Thanks, Christal!
LOVE this idea Sarah. We always feel guilt when recycling our cards, but there just isn’t the space to keep them! This will be so great to look back at when the kids are older.
So true, Kristi! Now that we have our keepsake journals we can skip the cards altogether and record what the kids want to say right in the journal!
Such a great idea! Wish I would have known about this when our kids were younger 🙂
It’s never too late to start, Kim! You are in the fun stage, where the kids can grab the keepsake journal and write a note to you all on their own!
Such a neat idea! Most of my kids’ stuff ends up in the recycling after spending considerable time on the fridge. This may be an option to keep my fridge clear and still have the kids’ work accessible for all of us to look at it ???.
Yes, Nicole! It would be perfect for your family!
Great idea Sarah!! I look forward to starting this. ?
You’ll love it, Marsha!
I have a little journal where my daughters and husband write in for every ‘card giving’ occasion instead of buying me a card. It’s cute to see how the girls have progressed and funny to see what Doug leaves for me. I was looking through it the other day and noticed he even left a little surprise note in it for me when he went to Vegas to run his marathon. I like your idea of adding their art and little notes that they write me. Great idea, Sarah!
I love it, Rhonda! And, surprise notes are the best!
